Long time Dead Head, but I had only seen Ratdog once before, preferring Phil and Friends. Wasn't too pleased with that first show, but this one made me a fan.
The crowd at Red Rocks was super cool and the weather was great, overcast/ slightly sunny with a few pleasant rain drops.
The "Music Never Stopped" was a great way to kick it off and showed the band was "on" tonight. Highlighs for me were:
* A groovy "Jerry would be proud" Loose Lucy.
* A kick-ass Jack Straw with a long jam including some funky reggae shit in the middle.
* A great Cassidy
* And a really fun Sugaree.
After that SCI, came out and kicked ass into another dimension, and after we could almost take no more, all of Ratdog and Keller Williams came out for a stellar China Cat >Rider to close off the evening.
A big show all around :)

Haven't seen Ratdog for about four years because in my opinion, they couldn't "find it" musically, but they do sound good. Weir's voice sounds clear and healthy!!!!! Mark is gelling with his guitarwork too. The band sounds great.

It's a shame Bobby didn't have more time. The band was really catching fire when they had to quit. Wasn't impressed with SCI, but that's okay. It was a nice evening and it's always good to rock out with the dog out!

Always nice to be at Red Rocks! I like Ratdog better in small indoor venues--they are more like a really Excellent 'bar band' than a big venue machine. Maybe it is because of that mindset, but Ratdog didn't really 'hit it' for me until Sugaree, and the OMSN encore Smoked! (Should add that I always enjoy Victim - this one was great.)
I hadn't seen String Cheese Incident since 1999 and really enjoyed them back then. Maybe I'm getting older, but I didn't enjoy their sets very much. They certainly PLAYED - not questioning that. They just never hit that 'spot' in me that keeps me coming back to shows after all these years.

i loved this show and the whole scene at red rock. jack>dark star>cassidy was it for me. the whole show was great with a nice mix of dead, a little dylan a bit of beatles. the sound was great. i really enjoyed keller and bobby doing dark hollow acoustic as well - very sweet! red rock is such an amazing place, can not wait to go back. i thought the china>rider with cheese was incredible. great times and great tunes. i love colorado.

My first Red Rocks experience!! Wow what a night, the hula hoopers, SCI fans were every weir, but I was there for Bobby and the boys, and they didnt disapoint.
The altitude messed with me.
Flew out from New Hampshire, and end up loosing our tickets, and 10 minutes before the show, a kind soul sold us 2 tickets. Jack Straw Rocked
and teh Dark Star was smoooth

This was a very poor show -- the first half hour was one major drag. Flagging tempos, lack of energy and genuinely poor musicianship. The nadir was a Jack Straw that wanted to be a Rasta version, but never worked. The only decent songs in the set were Sugaree and Saturday Night, but I would have much rather heard more Weir tunes.
YMWV, but that is currently the last time I've seen Ratdog, because to me they are Bob Weir's Grateful Dead Bar Band; lacking in direction, musicianship and vision. It's sad that SCI was better -- and they weren't great to begin with -- but this was just another night of lame GD nostalgia.
